Fly Fishing White River Arkansas Day3
It's my last day in Arkansas fly fishing the White River for trout, but what a beautiful day! I hooked a total of six fish and caught two in the net releasing them back to the river.

Our second day on the White River fishing for some trout, and enjoying the beautiful area in Arkansas. The water only looks a few feet deep, but its up to my waist in this video, and so clear. YEA I know I called that Brown Trout a Rainbow, and it was a Brown :)-

We rented a cabin on the White River in Arkansas to fish for some trout. The cabin was wonderful, and right next to the river for easy access.

We rented a cabin on the White River near Cotter, Arkansas. The location is what they call the narrows, and I was getting bites till they opened the dam flow.

Well my Arkansas trip was a blast, and here is one of the fly shops I visited in Cotter, Arkansas. I would say the people working there were really nice to me, even knowing I was an out of towner as well.

Fly Fishing Lamar Dixon Ponds

The heat here in Louisiana this week is oppressive to say the lease, but I still managed a few hours at a local pond. Summertime tip: Go early, and leave early before the temps reach late 90's for safety. NO fish is worth a heat stroke!
Fly Fishing BREC Ponds

A warm morning at a local BREC park doing some fly fishing for panfish.
Sage advice, my friend. I fell into the same trap as you. I bought an uber expensive rod and reel - that I'll never use. Instead, I'll stick with my $100 MaxCatch combo.
We were there beginning of June for six days. they were pumping water at a high rate every day flooding our backyard access. Rented a self-guided boat and could see fish everywhere but couldn't get them to bite even though we tried everything the locals suggested. Averaged about six fish (released all) a day. Long drive from Baton Rouge to Trout Capital for that.
I love my 1wt maxcatch flyrod. You definitely dont need to spend a mint to go out and have a great day on the water
Wow, definitely clearer than waters around where I'm at in louisiana 😮
I know you are !!! Will be sending info on it out in a couple of weeks . Did this same trip last year with some neighborhood friends and we had a blast !!
I was at that exact spot about a month ago , had been with some friends over at Gastons Resort on the White River and on the way back fished Crooked Creek. The first weekend of October I will be hosting a trip for the Red Stick Fly Fishers up there. I have rented a 3 story house right on Crooked Creek where we can wade fish behind the house and/or the White River also.
I am a member of the Red Stick Fly Fishers :) sounds like a sweet trip
Hey I know this video is a couple weeks old. But I actually live on one of the rivers/canals off lake maurepas. But I’ve never screwed around with any fly rod. But just a couple of days ago picked up a rod teen and line an all that good stuff. But didn’t pick up any flys or anything like that. Wanted to do some digging around. A cross a few people in Louisiana fly fishing for basically what you’re going after. But if you get a moment in time for a reply. Would definitely appreciate it. As to what flys your having the best of luck with. If links to any that you’ve had some success with? Would definitely appreciate it. Trying to get a good base to start out with. So if you can shed some light on it. Definitely would be greatly appreciated. I’m not even sure as to how hook sizes run for them type of fish. And flys. What does the flys play any part in the sizes. Just anything you can share. An or links to anything around fly fishing for basically them same fish your after. Very much appreciated. Also if anyone passing through has some input is fine also. Only asking him directly since we’re just about fishing the same waters same state ect. So figured I’m sure area plays least some part. In on the flys ect.
Well when it comes to select flies, it depends on the area, season, and species of fish. I mostly fish with hook sizes 10, or 12 for panfiish, and my favorite flies are the Bully Spider, Rubber San Jaun Worm, and the Black Foam Ant fly. I use a few hook size up for sacalait, or bass if I am after them. The size of the fly matters if your only interested in catching bigger fish and leaving the smaller ones alone. I have caught some big fish on small flies.
@@LouisianaBlackwaterFlyFishing looking at your videos. You’ve been all over. More specifically I’m on the diversion canal. So tied into blind river an what not. But was looking for some good flies just for general through the year choices to choose from basically. I’ll have to check out some of the ones you’ve made. An do a lil digging a research of what times of the year the fish experience what falling or landing on the water a get a better idea. Compounded with some trial and error error. Part of the fun is just getting out there anyway. I just figured the body size of some of the types of flies the body thickness probably changed hook size. But I’m sure anyone tying flies got that worked out for the most part. Or has whatever in multiple sided hooks. I do have one other question I’m a little confused on. I keep seeing some things on people smashing down the hooks barb? Must be more of a catch and release thing? Definitely appreciate the response though. Wasn’t expecting it back that quick at all.
@@AquaTech225 Well yea, bigger flies require larger hooks.. I buy my hook barbless when I can, and always debarb hooks so to easier release the fish I catch for fun. lol the rain has me home and not fishing :)
@@LouisianaBlackwaterFlyFishing yeah the weather has been. A pain in the neck for everything. Most of my work work is outside. All this off an on rain has been a pain in the ass. But that’s the typical Louisiana summer. You know how that is.
Awesome fishing. I may of missed it I did a lots scrolling to find some fly fishing. But what bait/lure were you catching on?
I wasn't using flies in this video, but crickets. I fly fish for fun, but use my spinning reels for catching fish to eat :)
oh no, I know. I was just browsing your videos and seen the words on the video. An I believe you mentioned you were getting ready to fly fishing. Lol but you must of been doing good enough it wasn’t any need to ha. Look like ya was putting a good hurtin on em with the spinner. But that was my whole purpose to looking an now jumping into the fly fishing was more to learn it. For the fun of it. I love my spinning reels. An bait casters I don’t really even mess with them at all.
Beautiful creek, those Ozark Bass are really cool too!
Did you rent it through Air BnB?
So what will the 1 weight cast efficiently? Poppers even? I’ve seen a people say 1weight won’t cast poppers well is that a farce as well? I was gonna buy a 1 weight for bluegill
I cast small poppers and dry flies all the time on my 1wt fly rod. I can cast small poppers sized for panfish super easy, but yes, the larger poppers meant for bass you need a at lease a 4-6 wt fly line. check out my video on DIY foam popper heads I make my poppers out of punched foam bodies, but name brand like Betts cast just fine as well.
What weight did you throw poppers on the 1weight?
I have fished Crooked Creek all my life setting and fishing is superb.
Thanks for bringing us along. Nice catch. Wanted to ask which gopro you use it takes great video?
The Go Pro 9
What you prefer the 1w or 2w better
I like the 1wt better
Sorry if this is a silly question, but is there a way to tell (app or something) how fast the river will be moving and how low it is? I really wanna take my kayak out here and paddle upstream and fish for some bass, but I don't wanna waste the drive if it's moving too fast to safely kayak on.
Angry Angler lol great name.. well yes I always check this site for water levels waterdata.usgs.gov/la/nwis/current/?type=flow
@@LouisianaBlackwaterFlyFishing haha thanks I had to find something catchy for my channel! 😂 thanks, I’m gonna check this out!
Cool
i guess your not in Louisiana! look like a good day of fishing.
The heart break. It's happened more times than I'll admit 😂
Whats your go to size rod and fly for bream?
For panfish and fun size bass I would recommend a 3wt. They are light and fun to cast. Just about all your catches will be a fun fight. You can go with a 1 or 2wt but a 3wt will give you a broader range of size fish you can catch and flies to cast.
I can feel the water just watching this video.
The White river is one of my favorite rivers to fly fish here in Arkansas. Even if I'm not trout fishing. Tri color wooley boogers work great on that river. I'd say a size 8. I unfortunately cant fly fish for a few more months due to surgery so it was good to see someone out on it.
What a beautiful river.. I had a blast!
Very nice! Good looking fish
I’m glad to see that you caught some brother. Is there a smallmouth video coming soon?
Yes I though I had caught a smallmouth, but was informed they call them google-eye, and its not our google-eye fish we have here in Louisiana. So it wasn't a smallmouth, but still a new species of fish for me!
@@LouisianaBlackwaterFlyFishing awesome, goggle eyes are also known as rock bass. They do make fine table fare.
I’m moving towards the city near there, could I know where that is?
Its near cotter city called pa's cabin. the area of the river is called the Narrows.
very nice fish
That was a nice brown
The White River was amazing
Very nice….thanks for
It’s not a fly rod but I bought a 9 ft telescopic spinning rod combo for $40 from a Chinese website, and I rigged it with a bobber, 80 lbs braid, and some mono leader with a bobber and a small fly. It’s overkill but better safe than sorry. The whole thing folds up to like a foot long and doesn’t take as much space to cast as a fly rod, plus the action I get out of the fly is good enough to trick so many bluegill by the banks you wouldn’t believe it.
I recommend going right on the walkway and got to the first bench, bunch of bluegill and I use them as bass bait, and also I was there like a week ago and there’s a goose with a whopper plopper in its foot
It was "The Movie" that did it. Yuppies, and then the hipsters got into it and all of a sudden it was "the thing to do". Formerly quiet and almost undisturbed waters became crowded with yups in fancy togs, flogging the water and trying to look like they knew what they were doing. Rods, reels, waders, and all the rest went from prices that a working man could afford to ridiculous levels, designed to mine the deep pockets of executive types. I remember in the 80's being poked fun at for fishing with my old Granger bamboo rod and wicker creel that my grandad handed down to me in the late 60's. From the 90's on I would find the occasional rod, reel and other gear at estate sales when a noob gave up the sport and sold off their barely used equipment. I still use the Granger and my first 70's Fenwick fiberglass on the small trout streams in my nearby mountains, and I have a great time doing it. I can appreciate the power behind something like a Sage Rp rod for windy days and extra long casts and a super smooth disc drag reel, but I have just as much fun fishing with anything that will cast a fly. I personally see no need to get into the latest high dollar equipment race. $1000 for a Lamborghini fly tying vise? Dang. Nice if your pockets are that deep, but a killer fly can be tied on much more affordable tools. My vise is a primitive one made in the 1930's that I found in an antique shop for cheap, but it works just fine for nearly any size of fly that i normally use. I made extra money in my 20's tying part time for a local rod and gun shop using that vise. I can see the utility of a rotary vise, especially if I want to get back into tying flies for sale part time again in my retirement, but the prices of the better ones are a bit hard to swallow these days on a fixed income. Maybe I can justify it if I tie and sell enough flies over the next several years to cover the cost.
Nice flies! Agreed on some folk and fishing spots, just no respect for nature! Tight Lines and can't wait for vids of the flies in action.
What River
Not a river, but some drainage ditch
you can catch a fish or not, I'm here for Louisiana. Rural life best life.
The trash leavers are the reason that ' no fishing ' get put up. Totally aggravating. Nice looking pipe! Indica or sativa? Lol
Sweet looking flies.
I'm with you on that one brother. I've lost access to lot's of fishing spots because of people trashing these places. The State Attorney General just orders them inaccessible. Put up "No trespassing" signs, or "No vehicle access" signs. Those who respect laws stay out. But the people who trash it in the first place, ignore the signs, and continue trashing the place.
Yup, its has happen here as well. One of the major reasons we can't park by bridges and fish anymore in my area of the state.
Them big white ones would do good in saltwater.
Rudder brand rod and reel great starter combo
Will look forward to videos of your Arkansas smallmouth trip….
Thank you for this. I'm trying to teach my boys . It's so beautiful. Born and raised in Louisiana.
Where is this please?
I think I am about to order the 4wt version of the Unic glass. After a bunch of research / reviews I have come to relealise it is not 100% fiberglass, more of a composite between graphite and glass so you get a slightly faster action. Everyone has said they love the way the rod casts and feels. I have a 2 weight graphite and a 6 weight graphite already so it makes sense for the 4.
We’re supposed to be 110-115F all this week. But you have a lot more humidity. I worked in it for 37 yrs delivering mail here in Phoenix. You get acclimated to it but once it gets over 120 it’s a little ridiculous. Stay cool. 👍😃☀️🌵
the dude abides
Neat looking flies.
Good times👍
I've caught 2 of my biggest bass in that pond, 1 6 pounds and 1 6.5 pounds
